Several major South African metros are introducing solar feed-in tariffs, allowing residents with solar power systems to sell excess power back to the grid and reduce their monthly electricity bills.
City Power, the municipal power utility in Johannesburg, has reported improvements in its operations and reduced out-of-service substations due to lower load-shedding intensity in recent months.
Johannesburg residents have been advised to store water two days before a planned 40-hour water shutdown by Rand Water, the bulk water supplier. The shutdown is necessary for upgrades to Rand Water’s Eikenhof pump station and will take place from July 11th to July 13th.
