South Africa’s government needs to change – former World Bank head 

Former World Bank president David Malpass has stated that South Africa has tremendous potential but requires significant governmental changes to fulfill it.  

Malpass mentioned that the country is facing challenges such as economic growth, inflation, a weakening currency, and issues with providing essential services like electricity and clean water. He emphasized the need for government involvement in maintaining basic infrastructure and pointed out the example of Eskom, which has been struggling due to maintenance issues and inadequate electricity production. 

Malpass also highlighted the importance of a flexible labor force and proper decision-making in government spending. He acknowledged President Ramaphosa’s efforts to bring about reforms but stressed the necessity for fundamental changes at the government level to unlock South Africa’s potential.
