Eskom reveals why Jan Oberholzer left 

Eskom announced earlier this week that it had parted ways with former COO, Jan Oberholzer, by mutual agreement. 

Oberholzer left the utility because the Group Executive for Generation, Bheki Nxumalo, took over the responsibilities of the Koeberg long-term operation and projects at the Kusile Power Station. Oberholzer was on a fixed-term contract to support these projects and Eskom thanked him for his service.  

The COO position was made redundant as the responsibilities were taken over by the Group Executive for Generation. Eskom aims to have one person overseeing all operations within the generation division to ensure effective operations and the end of load-shedding.  

Oberholzer initiated the end of his contract and was not pushed by the utility. There were also questions raised about a controversial R250-million private security contract at Eskom during Oberholzer’s tenure.
