South Africans shouldn’t get their hopes up, experts warn 

Experts warn that South Africans should not get their hopes up regarding the Eskom power crisis. Martin Kingston, Chairperson of the Resource Mobilisation Fund (RMF), stated that resolving load shedding will be a long process and that fluctuations in blackouts may continue until the end of next year.  

While progress is being made in terms of the energy action plan and the National Energy Crisis Committee (NECOM), addressing load shedding will take time. Energy analysts caution that higher stages of load shedding are likely to return, as little foundational improvement has been made to the power situation.  

Concerns are also raised about the Koeberg Nuclear refurbishment running behind schedule, potentially adding stress to the grid in the future.
