Koeberg Unit 1 “will” be back online five months late — Eskom
Eskom, South Africa’s state-owned electricity utility, has announced that maintenance on the first unit of its Koeberg nuclear plant will be completed five months later than originally planned, now expected to be finished in November.
The maintenance work, which includes steam generator replacement, faced delays due to unforeseen logistical obstacles and challenges related to integrating a local workforce. This delay contributes to ongoing concerns about the reliability of South Africa’s power generation, with frequent rolling blackouts due to unreliable generation stations.
Maintenance on the second unit is set to commence shortly after the first unit is completed.
