Eskom takes control of major South African city’s load-shedding
Eskom has taken control of load-shedding in the City of Ekurhuleni municipality after it failed to comply with the National Rationalised Specifications’ Code of Practice for load-shedding.
As a result of the municipality’s non-compliance, Eskom started directly load-shedding Ekurhuleni customers. The City of Ekurhuleni did not reduce the load as required during a system emergency, leading to Eskom’s intervention.
This is not the first time Eskom has had to take over load-shedding for the municipality, as they have previously failed to adhere to the load-shedding requirements. Eskom urged residential and industrial customers in the City of Ekurhuleni to contact the municipality directly for their load-shedding schedule.
