Electricity Minister deliberately misleading South Africans – analyst 

Energy analyst Chris Yelland accused Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa of deliberately misleading South Africans regarding the closure of the Komati power station.  

Ramokgopa had claimed that the station’s coal-fired generation units were shut down due to international pressure on energy transitioning. However, Yelland refuted these claims, stating that the closure of Komati had been planned for years and that it was a thirsty, inefficient, and non-compliant power plant.  

Yelland criticized politicians for using selective outrage to blame others for South Africa’s electricity and infrastructure problems, stating that the real issue was political neglect and failure to reindustrialize in a timely manner.
