Stage 8 load-shedding possible in coming weeks – Eskom 

Eskom has stated that while South Africa has seen improvements in energy availability, stage 8 load-shedding is still possible during the winter, although less likely.  

The country has experienced less load-shedding in winter compared to earlier in the year, attributed to lower demand, improved generation capacity, increased OCGT diesel deliveries, and warmer weather. However, Eskom has intermittently implemented higher stages of load-shedding due to prolonged high demand, generator failures, and colder weather.  

The utility mentioned that the high demand for electricity during the remainder of winter will depend on how cold weather develops in the coming weeks and the available generation capacity. While less likely, stage 8 load-shedding is still a possibility if a cold spell coincides with multiple generator breakdowns.
