South Africa has the skills to fix Eskom 

Busisiwe Mavuso, CEO of Business Leadership SA, believes that South Africa has the necessary skills to address the issues at Eskom, the country’s power utility.

Mavuso believes that the problems lie in political interference rather than a lack of skills. She stated that there are plenty of engineers, professionals, and plans to fix Eskom, but decisions made at the political level hinder progress.  

Former Eskom CEO Jacob Maroga also emphasized the importance of not giving up on Eskom due to its significant role in the country’s power system. Maroga explained “we don’t have the money to say: ‘Let us abandon it and start something else.’” 

Meanwhile, Eskom reached an agreement with labour unions, granting employees a 7% pay increase. Additionally, Mozambique committed to supplying South Africa with 100MW of power immediately and an additional 600MW in six months, which would provide relief to the power grid.
