Big Eskom cover-up 

Former Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter and other whistleblowers have revealed how criminal networks involving high-profile politicians infiltrated all levels of Eskom’s operations, engaging in activities such as armed robbery, fuel theft, sabotage, and corruption.  

Although previous investigations and promises of reform were made, little has been done to address the corruption at Eskom.  

The ruling party and connected politicians are said to benefit from the malfeasance, hindering efforts to root out corruption. Parliament’s portfolio committee has been accused of covering up the issues and protecting implicated individuals.  

De Ruyter’s attempts to seek help from police, state security agencies, and the government have been met with little support and political will to address the corruption.
