Beware solar power corruption in South Africa 

Solarise Africa co-founder and COO, Sakkie van Wijk, has warned about the potential for corruption in the growing solar power market in South Africa. He highlighted dubious transactions with multiple layers of supply chains that result in inflated project costs and compromised installations.  

Van Wijk emphasized the need for individuals adopting solar power to scrutinize every aspect of the deal and ensure compliance with legal requirements. He also mentioned the importance of obtaining authorizations from appropriate authorities and adhering to building plan requirements for large-scale solar installations to ensure safety, efficiency, and long-term sustainability.  

The surge in solar power uptake in South Africa has been compared to a gold rush, with a significant increase in installations observed in various regions.
